This issue focuses on the Third Sector : civil society, new social movements, alternative struggles based on local cultural dynamics. Examples are drawn from Mexico, Zaire, Brazil, Japan, etc. Between dogmatic Leninism and non-commital post-modern culturalism, there is a need for a concerted and coherent action of citizens to stop the dangerous onslaught of capitalist fundamentalism. To open up new horizons which offer more humane alternatives to the presently prevailing economistic obsession, a careful look at peoples' cultures-in-action is required.

In a few months, the 25th issue of our journal will be published. We thought this was the proper occasion to introduce some changes in our publication. A letter to our readers is attached, which you are invited to read carefully.
